Improving Uplink QoS of Wifi Hotspots
نویسندگان
چکیده
Hotspots providers (using IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN, also known as WiFi) are looking into ways to increase revenue from their service and improve customer satisfaction/experience. We propose a practical two-hop relaying scheme, managed by the Access Point (AP) to increase aggregate data throughput. We argue that controlled and incentives based collaboration among nodes and AP can improve overall QoS and hence the driving force for making relaying commercially viable.

An Uplink Bandwidth Management Framework for IEEE 802.16 with QoS Guarantees
This paper presents a novel uplink bandwidth management framework for IEEE 802.16 WiMAX. This framework is destined to be used in a scenario where a large number of connections are simultaneously active, as may be the case when WiMAX is used as a backhaul for WiFi hotspots. In such a scenario we propose a simple and efficient scheduling discipline for the WiMAX uplink traffic. We also propose a...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of WiMax/WiFi System
WiMAX and WiFi are considered as the promising broadband access solutions for wireless MANs and LANs, respectively. In the recent works WiMAX is considered suitable as a backhaul service to connect multiple dispersed WiFi „hotspots‟. Hence a new integrated WiMAX/WiFi architecture has been proposed in the literatures. In this paper the performances of integrated WiMAX/WiFi network have been inve...
متن کاملLa Coexistence De Femtocell Avec Le Wifi ( En Cas De Fractionnement Et Le Partage Du Spectre sans Licence ) Mémoire Présenté Comme
Femtocells and WiFi are often presented as opposing technologies. The reality is that both have a vital role to play in supporting future mobile traffic growth. In many cases both technologies will eventually be employed in a single box with access via an intelligent mobile deviee that will automatically select the best option. Deploying Femtocells in WiFi hotspots would let access providers ad...
متن کاملImproving Mobile Video Streaming with Prefetching in Integrated Cellular-WiFi Networks
We present and evaluate a procedure that utilizes mobility and throughput prediction to prefetch video streaming traffic in integrated cellular and WiFi networks. Our evaluation is based on trace-driven simulation considering empirical measurements and shows how various parameters influence the performance, in terms of the number of paused video frames and the energy efficiency; these parameter...
متن کاملVoice over IP in the WiFi Network business models: Will voice be a killer application for WiFi Public Networks?
The stunning growth of WiFi networks, together with the spreading of mobile telephony and the increasing use of Voice over IP (VoIP) on top of Internet, pose relevant questions on the application of WiFi networks to support VoIP services that could be used as a complement and/or competition to the 2G/3G cellular networks. Voice has been, is, and will surely be one of most important killer appli...
